Frosty Fun: Bringing Snowmen at Night to Life in Your Classroom

Have you read the book Snowmen at Night to your class?  Snowmen at Night is a great book to use when teaching about predictions.  I read this book to my class every January, after winter break. 

Introducing Snowmen at Night:

First I show students the cover of the book and read the title.  Then students make predictions about what they think snowmen do at night. Then I capture their predictions on chart paper. 

Checking our Predictions:

After we read Snowmen at Night,  we fill in the prediction chart with what actually happened in the story.  

 

Brainstorming Before Writing:

After reading the story, prompt your students with questions like:

• What do you think snowmen would do at night?
• What adventures might they embark on?
• Are there special abilities or magical powers that snowmen possess under the moonlight?

Encourage students to think outside the box and let their creativity run wild. Write down their ideas on a whiteboard or large paper to create a shared pool of inspiration.

Crafting Individual Snowmen Stories:

Now comes the exciting part – writing their own snowman adventures. Provide each student with writing materials and let them weave their tales inspired by the magical world of "Snowmen at Night." Remind them to incorporate descriptive language to paint vivid pictures of their snowman's nocturnal activities.

Sharing and Celebrating the Stories:

Once the stories are complete, create a special time for students to share their snowman adventures with the class. Celebrate the uniqueness of each story and the imaginative worlds that have been crafted. These stories make a wonderful bulletin board or window display for the whole school to see.
